Cruise & Cycle on the Saar and Moselle - A

Germany's beautiful river landscape along the Moselle and Saar invite you to stay a while! If you come along on this eight-day tour you will have the chance to visit Saarburg, also known as "Small Venice". The city isn't the only highlight of the tour. There is much for romantics and people who simply love life to enjoy along the way - quaint timber-framed houses, vineyards, the Porta Nigra in Trier, and the river bend "Alte Saarschleife" just to name a few. As you cycle during the day, the river boat cruises down the river to meet you at your next destination as your accommodation for the night. And if you're not up to cycling, just stay on board.


Travelroute:

Day 1: Arrival in Saarburg
Travellers are responsible for their transportation to Saarburg. Boarding starts at 4:00 PM.

Day 2: Saarburg - "Alte Saarschleife" - Wasserbillig (Luxembourg) - Trier/ Konz
Distance: approx. 30 - 40 km
To the riverbend "Alte Saarschleife", the monument "Igeler Säule", and Wasserbillig in Luxembourg. Your boat awaits you in the afternoon in Trier or Konz.

Day 3: Trier/Konz - Mehring
Distance: approx. ca 25- 35 km
Cycle to Mehring after breakfast. It is the largest vineyard area in the Moselle-Saar-Ruwer-Region. Even the Romans knew to appreciate the landscape over 2000 years ago.

Day 4: Mehring - Bernkastel - Kues
Distance: approx. 50 km
The bicycle trail leads you to Berkastel-Kues. Give yourself a deserved break on the market square with its stately timber-framed houses.

Day 5: Bernkastel-Kues - Traben-Trarbach - Zell
Distance: approx. ca 45. km
Follow the Moselle from Bernkastel-Kues to Traben-Trabach and your destination, Zell an der Moselle. Zell is known for the story of the black cat that supposedly helped the wine traders to decide which wine were the best. The wine "Zeller Schwarze Katz" derives its name from the story.

Day 6: Zell - Beilstein - Cochem, approx. 35 km / 22 mi
Distance: approx. 35 km
Cycle from Zell to Beilstein, the 'Rothenburg on the Moselle'. Today's destination is Cochem with its famous Reichsburg Castle. Enjoy the wine tasting in the evening.

Day 7: Cochem - Alken - Koblenz
Distance: approx. 37 km
Cycle to Alken. Your river boat will be waiting for you there and will take you to Koblenz where the Moselle and Rhine Rivers meet.

Day 8: Departure from Koblenz
Depart after breakfast. Travellers are responsible for their homeward transportation.

Arrival Information:
Saarburg: Parking near the docks costs approx. EUR 10,-/week.
The return transfer from Koblenz to Saarburg costs approx. EUR 65,- (for groups of 4 or more). Reservations must be made at time of booking. The fee is payable on-site.

Accommodation:
MS Patria: Rustic and cosy river boat for 66 passengers, Restaurant & Bar (air-conditioned), partly covered sun deck with seating and bicycle storage. Main deck: 14 cabins, each with its own air-conditioning system (windows cannot be opened). Upper deck: 19 cabins (no air-conditioning; windows can be opened). All cabins are approx. 7 qm / 75 ft², have two single beds, and shower/WC.
