Bicycle-Cruise Passau - Vienna

The Danube Cycle Route is the father of all long distance cycling paths; cycling as a form of holiday started here. The level, car-free path leads you to the untouched narrow valleys (such as Schlögen) or to well-known attractions (such as the Melk monastery). Depending upon desire and mood, you can spend your holiday time on board or on a bike.


Tourdescription:

Day 1, Passau - Friday
Individual train arrival to Passau. Bus transfer from train station forecourt from ICE27 (arrival 4:34 pm) to ship. Embarkation. Welcome snacks. 8 pm "cast off" to Wesenufer.

Day 2, Wesenufer near Passau, Linz - Saturday
Cycling tour Wesenufer - Schlögener Schlinge - Linz (59 km). Past the Schlögener Schlinge, through the unsettled narrow valley near Kaiserau to Aschach and Linz, Upper Austria's vibrant state capital.

Day 3, Linz, Grein - Sunday
Cycling tour Linz - Grein (58 km). Past the castles Pragstein, Wallsee and Greinburg to Grein.

Day 4, Grein, Spitz/Wachau - Monday
Cycling tour Grein - Spitz/Wachau (55 km). Past the Black Wall and the Nibelungs town Ybbs to Melk. Continue on to Spitz either by bike ca. +17 km or by ship (EUR 7.50 charge). Individual visit of a wine tavern (bar/restaurant where the winegrower offers his/her own wine).

Day 5, Spitz/Wachau, Tulln - Tuesday
Cycling tour Spitz/Wachau - Dürnstein - Krems - Tulln (52 km). Continue on through the Wachau to Dürnstein and Krems to the flower city of Tulln.

Day 6, Tulln, Vienna - Wednesday
Cycling tour Tulln - Vienna (34 km). Past "Austria's Escoria", the monastery of Klosterneuburg, in the morning to Vienna. Optional: city tour of Vienna directly from the pier at 1 pm +EUR 9.90. Information booklet with individual city tour by bike - free of charge. Tested route for a city tour of Vienna - 100% easily detectable cycling paths. Return of bikes. "cast off" at midnight to return to Passau.

Day 7, Vienna, Linz - Thursday
Indulgence day on board. Experience the cycled path again from the sun deck. "Photo quiz": Do you know the Danube
Cycling Route?. Afternoon concert in Linz on Bruckner's organ. Individual tour of the 2009 Capital of Culture. "Cast off" after midnight for Passau.

Day 8, Passau - Friday
Arrival in Passau around 8 am. Bus transfer to ICE28, departure from main train station at 11:24 am.
